Or Jacques-Alain Miller démontre que Lacan, dans son tout dernier enseignement, s'attache à construire un réel propre à la psychanalyse. Celui-ci n'est pas seulement une catégorie logique, mais un réel de la contingence, où est engagé le corps vivant et parlant de chaque sujet. Dès lors, selon Hervé Castanet, il ne s'agit plus tant d'insister sur le fait qu'il n'y a pas de rapport sexuel – version logique du réel – que sur les rapports singuliers qu'entretient chacun avec le réel du sexe.

Our doxa tends to associate at the end of Lacan's teaching a version of the real as belonging to the domain of logic: there would not exist on the outside as an intolerable and painful exterior, but would by deduction as an internal impasse to the psychic life. But Jacques-Alain Miller demonstrates that Lacan, in his very last teaching, endeavours to construct a real that is proper to psychoanalysis. This real is not only a logical category, but a real of contingency, that involves the living, speaking body of each subject. Thenceforth, according to Hervé Castanet, it's no longer so much about the fact that there is no sexual relation – the logical version of the real – than it is about the singular relations that each of us sustains with the real of sex.
