Jorge Forbes fala da necessidade de renovação da psicanálise. Pergunta-se como podemos enfrenar, no século XXI, o real não responde a nenhuma ideologia. Considera que isso exige uma nova forma de se posicionar frente ao outro e frente ao amor. É preciso, nos diz ele, que cada um se responsabilize, sem nenhum tipo de conhecimento, sem nenhum tipo de ideia sustentada, senão num querer responsável, responsável por ser arriscado, e arriscado por não ter nenhum saber, nenhuma ideologia, que justifique. Parece-lhe fundamental para um aporte da psicanálise, hoje, "a mudança paradigmática entre a expectativa de sentido e o enfrentamento das consequências da própria vida – independente do sintoma." Por ultimo, considera, a partir de sua experiência clinica e de interlocução com cientistas, que "os geneticistas estão muito longe de compartirem o que a mídia fala, como se os avanços genéticos fossem resolver as inquietações e as duvidas humanas. O que dizem, ao contrario, é que, quanto mais avançam em suas descobertas genéticas, menos sabem estabelecer uma relação de causa e efeito e, por isso, contam com a psicanálise, pois acham que o homem terá que se confrontar com essa oferta de um conhecimento, que só terá validade na medida em que for subjetivada.

Jorge Forbes underscores the necessity of renewing psychoanalysis. How, in the 21st century, do we cope with the real that responds to no ideology? According to him, it demands a new form of assumption of position faced with the Othe rand faced with love. It is, says he, about each one becoming responsible – a responsibility that carries a risk because there is no knowledge, no ideology to justify it. To make a contribution to psychoanalysis today, a paradyme change matters: to pass from the expectancy of meaning to making oneself responsible for the consequences of one's own life.

The press proclaims that genetic advancements will be able to resolve human doubts and uncertainties. From his clinical experience and his exchanges with geneticists at the University of São Paulo, Jorge Forbes underscores that these scientists recount that, quite to the contrary, the further they get in their research, the less they manage to establish causal relations. They think that Humankind will be confronted with an offer of knowledge that's valid only insofar as it is subjectified. Hence, they count on psychoanalysis.
