Le réel de la psychanalyse cherche à attraper le réel de chacun, plongé dans son siècle, et tel que son inconscient le lui manifeste. Il faut se donner la peine d'explorer cet inconscient, d'en faire le tour, pour avoir accès à la cartographie de son fantasme, c'est-à-dire à sa fenêtre sur le réel. Ce noyau de réel auquel il nous donne accès, on ne peut que le circonscrire dans une analyse, saisir la manière dont il est tissé dans le fantasme. Le réel du XXIe siècle est à la jonction du réel singulier qui se cerne en analyse et la façon dont le siècle, par les discours propres à l'époque, estampille le sujet – la contingence plus que la causalité y a sa part.

The real of psychoanalysis seeks to catch each one's real, immersed in their century, and as their unconscious expresses it. One has to make an effort to explore that unconscious, to examine it from all sides, in order to gain access to the cartography of one's fundamental fantasy, one's window on the real. This kernel of real which it gives us access to, we can only circumscribe it in an analysis, seize the manner in which it is woven into the fantasy. The real of the 21st century is at the junction of the singular real that analysis grasps and the way the century, through the discourses proper to it, stamps the subject – the contingency more than the causality has its part there.
